"A Timeless Message"

I'm looking at a copy of Samuel J. Andrews' book Christianity and Anti-Christianity in Their Final Conflict. This particular book came from the library of the late Dr John W. McCormick (1922-1995). This is a man I've heard preach when I was a young teenager. What caught my eye is a note he wrote on the front flyleaf of this book. He wrote:

Note: This book was copyrighted in 1898, yet it is as "up-to-date" as if written yesterday. Which proves once again that the person who writes from a firm grounding in the Word of God has a timeless message, and has something of worth to say to each succeeding generation. -J.W.M.

This note was written sometime near the end of 1972. There is another note indicating that this volume was "A gift from Bro. R___ A____, Pastor of Caesarea Church, Mansfield, Ohio - Oct. 22, 1972".

In a day when the authority of the Scriptures is being rethought, this is a healthy truth to be proclaimed. How many books, even theological books, line the used bookstore shelves because they are no longer up-to-date? The test of a book is it's foundation. Is it rooted in philosophy or in the eternal Word of God? This is worth meditating upon.
