Dr. Andreas Köstenberger shares some notes from a seminar he gave to his first year doctoral students at SEBTS. This is a great list and I'm certain that it was a very helpful seminar.
As I read through his list I thought about how this blog is helping me as a reader, researcher and writer. When I first started this blog, I had few intentions to write much. I hoped, rather, to keep track of books, book recommendations, theological tidbits, etc. I still haven't gone far enough in presenting well researched articles. Our project, Today in Church History, has helped me in this area. I try to read up on the individual in question and write our a brief post about his/her life. Tim's articles have been an encouragement to me to dig a little deeper. Write more.Time and experience are huge factors with which I'm dealing. Lord willing, I'm going to keep at it. This has been very helpful to me. Dr. Köstenberger's notes have renewed my desire to dig in and do more. I love to research. I love to read. I like to write and would like to do this better. Dr. Köstenberger's questions are very probing, this one especially...
Ask yourself: What is the contribution God wants you to make that no one else can make?I hope that these 7 W's will be helpful to you, too. Here's a link to his article: The 7 W’s of Writing
Here are two books he assigned for their reading:
- The Craft of Research by Wayne Booth, Gregory Colomb, and Joseph Williams, (University of Chicago Pres, Second Edition, 2003), 336 pages. [Amazon | CBD | WTS]
- Style: Toward Clarity and Grace by Joseph Williams, (University of Chicago Pres, Second Edition, 1995), 226 pages. [Amazon | WTS]
