Remembering James Montgomery Boice

This month marks eight years since the passing of Dr. James Montgomery Boice, pastor of Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, who died June 15, 2000 of liver cancer. Lydia Brownback has a worthy tribute to her former pastor on her blog The Purple Cellar. Dr. Boice’s dying testimony is a fitting valedictory, bringing to completion the race he ran so well. Take a moment to read how he glorified God in his dying; it’s encouraging.

  2. If anyone wants to read the complete testimony that Dr. Boice gave to his church about his cancer, you can find it in pdf format on the website for Tenth Presbyterian.

  3. I had never heard of Dr. Boice until 2002. I have a copy of one of the hymns that he wrote, 'Give Praise to God' this is one of my favorite hymns and I believe he wrote it shortly after he found out about having cancer. I carry it in my Bible. One of the richest hymns full of doctrinal truth! I would like to eventually acquire his Romans commentary series

  4. I'm not sure when I first heard of Dr. Boice, maybe around 1992 when I taught a Sunday School series on the life of Joseph. One of the resources I used was his exposition of Genesis. Volume 3 (the one on Joseph) was so good I bought the other two volumes and just kept on buying his books. Sounds like I need to familiarize myself with his hymns, too.
