The folks at the ESV Study Bible blog are "making available the whole book of 1 John from the ESV Study Bible. It’s a 14-page PDF. We hope that you find it helpful in your study of God’s Word." I downloaded this file, and it whetted my appetite for the entire Study Bible, due in October.
This looks great. I've been a bit overwhelmed by the marketing blitz and have not followed this Study Bible very closely. However, this past week I learned that Andreas J. Köstenberger wrote the notes for the Gospel of John, and I see that Robert Yarbrough wrote the notes to the Epistles of John. The introduction here is very helpful!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think of the note for 1 John 2:2? This text has suffered so much debate. I think that Yarbrough nailed it.
The full list of contributors is very impressive.
I agree with you that Yarbrough got it right. I've heard it said that Jesus' atonement is sufficient for all, but efficient for only those who believe.
