Theological Meditations from Dorothy Sayers

Over the past few years I have noticed a number of references to and quotations from the writings of Dorothy Sayers in books that I have read.  These repeated references have piqued my curiosity, so I decided to keep an eye out for one of her books at either the library or in bookstores, but just the other day I found a book in my own library containing a selection from Sayers's writings.  How about that for a bargain?

The book I found is a two-part volume, A Matter of Eternity: Selections from the Writings of Dorothy L. Sayers chosen and introduced by Rosamond Kent Sprague / Are Women Human? by Dorothy L. Sayers, with an introduction by Mary McDermott Shideler (Grand Rapids, MI: Wm B. Eerdmans [1973]).

The first part is described by Sprague as "a devotional book."  The second part is an address given to a Women's Society in 1938.

As I read, I am tweeting statements that have caught my attention (and that fit within the 140 character limitation).  Here are the tweets I've posted thus far:

#DorothySayers on Dogma: The Christian faith is the most exciting drama that ever staggerd the imagination of man--and the dogma is drama.

#DorothySayers: The Christian formula is not: "Humanity manifests certain adumbrations of the divine", but: "This man was very God."

#DorothySayers: He had "a daily beauty in His life that made us ugly,".... So they did away with God in the name of peace and quietness.

#DorothySayers: The people who hanged Christ never...accused Him of being a bore--on the contrary; they thought Him too dynamic to be safe.

#DorothySayers: ...if the Church is to make any impression on the modern mind we will have to preach Christ and the cross.
