Commentaries on Psalm 23

The following is a list of commentaries on Psalm23. This list was sent to me by Tim Leaman (TL), a fellow bibliophile. I will be adding to this list as I collect more information and recommendations. Links to CBD, WTS, and Amazon have been provided, however, many of these books may only be found in the used book market. Many used book sellers list their books for sale at Amazon.com, so you may want to try there. I would also recommend using the AddAll search engine. There are other search engines, but this has been my favorite.

This is an interesting devotional study of the major themes of this beloved psalm. The author does not provide of powerful exposition of the psalm but he does provide a wealth of quotes and allusions that will prove helpful for the preacher. (TL)
Slemming, C.W. He Leadeth Me. Fort Washington: CLC. 1973. 70 pp.
Conservative.
This brief devotional work provides some helpful information and exposition. The exposition is not confined to the 23 Psalm but extends to other Shepherd/Sheep passages. The writer seems to press things too far at times such a his explanation of “He prepareth a table before me in the presence of mine enemies”. Over all this is a charming work that still retains its worth. (TL)
Stalker, James. The Psalm of Psalms. New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons. 1913. 129 pp.
Conservative. [Scottish Free Presbyterian]
A rich exposition by one of the finest devotional writers of his day. Stalker sees the Psalm as containing two parts 1) Shepherd and 2) Host. This is a delightful read and a helpful source. (TL)
Stevenson, John. The Lord Our Shepherd: An Exposition of the Twenty-Third Psalm. New York: Carter. 1845.
Conservative
